The journey

One for Spice Tour, one for Cooking Lesson: 1. SPICE TOUR Walk into the heart of Zanzibar, known as the Spice Islands. Guided walk through lush tropical plantations where you will see, touch, smell and taste spices growing fresh from the soil. Learn how they grow, how they are harvested, and how locals use them for flavor, medicine, and beauty. You will discover cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, black pepper, turmeric, ginger, lemongrass and more, plus seasonal tropical fruits — mango, pineapple, jackfruit, passion fruit, banana and fresh young coconut picked straight from the tree. Fun, interactive and full of photo moments — handmade hats and jewelry from palm leaves, coconut climbing show, and lots of tasting. Duration: ∼2 hours 2. COOKING LESSON - AUTHENTIC SWAHILI CUISINE After the farm walk, join local women in a traditional open-air kitchen for a hands-on cooking class. Learn the secrets of Swahili cooking passed down for generations. Using the fresh spices and ingredients you just saw, you will: - Harvest vegetables, grate coconut and make fresh coconut milk by hand - Pound spices and prepare curry pastes the traditional way - Cook on charcoal — pilau rice / coconut rice, fish or chicken curry, vegetable stews, chapati, and local dessert Then sit together and enjoy the delicious meal you created yourself. No experience needed — perfect for couples, friends and small groups. Vegetarian friendly. Duration: ∼1 to 5 hours + lunch
